Dr Shashikanth , a Sri-Lankan born British national, was trained at
Belarussian State
Medical University ( formerly Minsk State Medical
Institute ) and
University
College London School of Medicine. He completed his pre
registration House officer posts at University College & Middlesex
Hospitals and North Middlesex Hospital In London, He did further hospital
training in various London Hospitals and did his
GP training in Oxford
. During his training period in Oxford ,he also worked part
time in the A&E department of Oxford John Radcliffe Hospital .
He practised as a GP in Oxford for a year before
moving
to West London. He worked as a part time GP in Hillingdon and during this
period he was employed as a primary care physician in Hillingdon
Hospital A&E department. He has a special interest in Emergency
medicine. His work in Hillingdon Hospital- 'A Primary care model in
A&E' -was presented at the NHS
modernisation agency conference in London in 2002 .
He became a full time GP in Watford following retirement of Dr Tim
Robson in 2003. He maintained his interest in A&E medicine by doing
sessions at A&E department of Watford General Hospital .
He left Watford to take a challenging post in Hillingdon and became a full time GP in Hillingdon from 1/10/2005 .
Dr Shashikanth represented trainee
GPs in Oxford and formed the first GP Registrars Committee for
Oxford Deanery in 2000-2001 with then Dean Dr Neil Johnson. Later he
represented Oxford Non Principal GPs at the Oxford Divisional BMA(
British Medical Association-Doctors' trade union). He is
the founder/ex-chairman/web editor of Hillingdon Independent GP Group
, a mutual support educational group for sessional GPs.
This growing peer support group which was found in 2002 has 80
members ,majority of whom are recently qualified GPs. In the past ,
he has been an elected member of the Local Medical Committee
for GPs in Hillingdon and has served in its executive committee.
He has a strong academic interest. He frequently attends courses and
educational meetings . He is an approved supervisor for retainer GPs
. He is a member
of Royal College of General
Practitioners. He has undertaken a postgraduate degree in
urgent care at Brunel University. He is a founder member of course committee of
Cert/Dip./M Sc in Urgent Care at
Brunel
University , West London
He was a member of Hillingdon Practice Based Commissioning Board (PBC)
with responsibilities to reshape the urgent care in the Hillingdon
Locality. He led a group of GPs working in Hillingdon A&E
department to help the
hospital to cut down waiting times and admissions. At present he
works in Hillingdon Hospital A&E department as an Honorary GP
, a post which linked to the urgent care PG degree.
He is a member of consultant to consultant referral
screening panel of Hillingdon PCT as well as PCT's premises
subcommittee. He moderates the e-discussion forum for Hillingdon
GPs and has shown extensive interest in networking among colleagues. On 1.4.2009 , Dr Shashikanth was appointed as the
Lead GP for CPD ( Continuing Professional Development) by Hillingdon
PCT. He organises GP Masterclasses for local GPs to facilitate
continuing professional development . In September 2009, he was
chosen as 'GP of the year ' by peers.
His charity work involves helping Point Pedro hospital ,Northern
SriLanka which is in a TSUNAMI hit region. He does monthly live programmes
on health promotion for an International Tamil satellite
TV channel based in West London.
His hobbies include travel, music, films and internet.

Dr Carol Cooper

Dr Carol Cooper graduated from Cambridge University and spent
several years in various hospital-based specialities, gaining
membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1981. She was
senior registrar in rheumatology, treating both adults and
children with arthritis. She later decided to enter general
practice, and worked as a trainee GP in Borehamwood, Herts.
Following that, she practised part-time in Harrow and in
Hanwell. In 1997, she was appointed a partner at a busy modern
practice in Chorleywood, Herts, which she left six years later
for family reasons. She has three sons.
Dr Cooper works part-time at West London Medical Centre, and
teaches at Imperial College School of Medicine. A member of
the British Society for Rheumatology, she retains an interest in
rheumatic diseases. She is also a busy medical writer and has
written 8 books on parenting and child health. She
contributes to several well-known publications and regularly
appears on TV and radio, most often for Five News where she is
the resident GP.
